2016 National Bravery Awards to Ruchita & Sai Krishna

An eleven year girl, S. Ruchita (Venkatayapally village, Toopran mandal, Medak) and fifteen year boy K. Sai Krishna Akhil (Aghapura, Hyderabad) are awarded with the National Bravery Award 2015 by the Indian Council for Child Welfare.

The Awards were given away on the hands of the Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi in New Delhi on January 24, 2016. The Union Minister for WCD Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi is seen and ICCW President Smt. Gita Siddhartha is also present.

The Ruchita was awarded with Geeta Chopra award for her courageous act for saving two lives, by throwing two fellow children out of their school van, when it is about to hit by a train at Maisaipet railway crossing track in Medak district on July 24, 2014.

As many as 20 students in that school bus were killed at the accident including her brother and sister (Shruti and Sharath). Though, Ruchita is an victim of atrial septal defect, a hole in the septum between the heart's two upper chambers.

The Geeta Chopra award is a prestigious civilian award in India, mainly given to the children under the age of 16 years for the acts of bravery. So as, Sai Krishna Akhil Kilambi is also been awarded for his bravery in saving his mother from electrocution.

While her mother K. Prasuna was cleaning the floor suddenly, she came in contact with a live electric-wire. The boy quickly managed to turn off the main electric power supply in his house watching not to step into water.

Both, Ruchita and Sai Krishna, will be participating in 67th Republic Day 2016 parade on January 26th at Rajpath, New Delhi. The Government of India will take care for these 25 nominees education and will also help if necessary for their higher studies.

Previously, Ruchita and Sai Krishna was also been felicitated by his highness the Hon'ble President of India Shri. Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan with National Bravery Awards 2014 last year on January 22, 2015.
